In modern terms, the concepts of personal liberty are simple: trust in your ability and that of your neighbors to do as they see fit while taking responsibility for yourself and others. This may seem very new and different, but it isn’t at all. These concepts are in fact older than our nation itself, and are immortalized in the Declaration of Independence with the words, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This concept is also known as self-determination.
The concept of self-determination is as old as human kind and is founded in proven Biblical and philosophical teachings. Concepts such as being rewarded for your hard work and doing right, providing for yourself and your family, and making your own choices and living with the results. We must also respect others and their rights to do the same without coveting or taking what they earn, respecting other people’s rights to their beliefs and willing service to others, as with great liberty comes great responsibility.
Too often we have seen our rights eroded as it becomes increasingly apparent that the government we established to protect and serve us no longer trusts us to run our own lives. They call tax cuts dangerous, as though the act of allowing us to keep more of what we earn is irresponsible. They make laws restricting what and where we can spend our hard-earned money. They use division by design to create victims, while they pit poor against rich, men against women, race against race, and then set themselves up as the solution. Their premise is that you are a child incapable of making decisions and need them to do so for you. Our servants have become our masters. They take from our neighbors to buy our servitude.
This arrogance must stop. We must reclaim our God given position as the rightful heirs to this nation and restore our trust in our government. I don’t pretend to hold all the answers, or hold myself up as a better person than you to choose how you live your life, but isn’t that the point? All I am asking for is the opportunity to represent you and be your voice as we cry out ENOUGH and reclaim our inheritance!
